Our Board
Johan van Parys, chair Johan M. J. van Parys, Ph.D. is the director of liturgy and sacred arts at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis. He teaches in the School of Theology of St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. And he is the art director for EnVisionChurch, an on-line resource sponsored by the Georgetown Center for Liturgy, Spirituality and the Arts. He is one of the co-founders of this chapter and has served on the board since its inception.

Israel E. Alguíndigue, vice chair
Israel E. Alguíndigue, Ph.D has recently re-joined the Patron’s Board as Vice Chair contributing in the areas of strategic planning and alliances/partnerships. He volunteers with a number of Minnesota non-profits, including the Basilica of St. Mary, and the Hopkins School District. Israel is currently a business consultant in the Twin Cities specializing in the area of business strategy, innovation and product portfolio development.

Karen Linder, treasurer
Karen Linder is honored to serve as treasurer for our local chapter of the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums. She is also the chief financial officer for the Smart City Companies and vice president of finance for the US Cable Corporation. Karen is a member of the Basilica of Saint Mary and has served in variety of roles including co-chair of the Centennial Capital Campaign, chair of the Finance Committee, member of Pax Cum Terra, the parish’s ecological stewardship committee, and as a Eucharistic minister.

Patrick Murphy, coordinator of social activities
Patrick has been a Patrons Board member since January 2007, and is the appointed Coordinator of Social Activities. He graduated with honors from the school of hotel and restaurant management at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Since then he has started a gourmet food brokerage firm, Great Goods Inc., in 1992. Over the years Patrick has learned to appreciate the importance of art in society and is honored to serve on the Patrons Board.

Deirdre Palmer, coordinator of educations activities
Deirdre Palmer is proud to be serving as a board member for our chapter of the Patrons of the Arts of the Vatican Museum, having been appointed in January, 2008. Her role on the board is as director of educational activities here in the Twin Cities area.
In her professional life, she is a Nephrologist at the University of Minnesota, with an interest in dialysis and kidney transplant. She lives in the Twin Cities with her husband and three children.

Kathy Dhaemers, secretrary
Kathy Dhaemers is honored to serve as secretary for our local chapter of the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums. She became the associate director of sacred arts at the Basilica of Saint Mary in 2000, after managing marketing and communications programs for a variety of Twin Cities’ corporations. Through the sacred art exhibitions and concerts she organizes at the Basilica, the community learns about history and faith experiences throughout the world.

Angie Lien, coordinator of public relations and communications
Angie Lien is the director of marketing and communications for the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis. She became a member of the Patron’s of the Arts in the Vatican Museums in 2007. As communications coordinator for the local chapter of the Patron’s, she enjoys building awareness around the efforts to restore and preserve some of the most impressive sacred artwork in the Vatican Museums.

Chip Brink, legal counsel
Chip Brink is proud to have served as the founding attorney and one of the initial board members of this chapter, working on its corporate documents, its initial temporary tax exemption status and its ongoing or permanent status as a 501 (c) (3) public charity. In his professional life, he is a transactional business lawyer working at Brink & Brink, Ltd. in downtown Minneapolis, and has served on many for-profit and nonprofit boards, including Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater Minneapolis and the Library Foundation of Hennepin County.
